JAXA Targets Oct 21, 2025 for HTV-X1 ISS Resupply on H3 F7 from Tanegashima

August 22, 2025
in Launches

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has set a target launch date of October 21, 2025 for the HTV-X1H3 F7 launch vehicle from the Yoshinobu Launch Complex at Tanegashima Space Center. The agency outlined the schedule parameters and coordination dependencies in a formal notice.

Launch details

  • Target launch date: October 21, 2025
  • Launch window: around 10:58 Japan Standard Time (24-hour clock)
  • Reserved launch period: October 22 through November 30, 2025
  • Launch site: Yoshinobu Launch Complex, Tanegashima Space Center
  • Launch vehicle: H3 Launch Vehicle Flight No. 7 (H3 F7)

JAXA noted that the exact liftoff time is driven by updated ISS orbital conditions and that the final selection of launch opportunities within the reserved period will be determined through international coordination for ISS operations.

Mission overview

HTV-X1 is JAXA’s new-generation unmanned cargo transfer spacecraft designed to deliver supplies and equipment to the ISS. The mission marks a key operational milestone for Japan’s logistics role within the station program and provides an opportunity to advance cargo transport capabilities alongside the nation’s evolving launch services.

Operational context

Scheduling for ISS resupply is constrained by orbital mechanics, visiting vehicle traffic, and partner coordination. The designated window provides flexibility to align with station trajectory updates and on-orbit traffic management, helping ensure safe approach and rendezvous timelines for the cargo vehicle.

What’s next

JAXA indicated that details for the sixth H3 mission (Type 30 test vehicle) will be released once confirmed. Additional updates on HTV-X1 processing, range operations, and final targeting are expected as the launch date approaches.
