NASA Seeks Applicants for AGN Science Interest Group Leadership Council (Apply by Aug 29)

August 26, 2025
in Astronomy

NASA’s Cosmic Origins Program has opened applications for new members of the AGN Science Interest Group (SIG) Leadership Council, with a deadline of Aug. 29, 2025. The council coordinates community activities around Active Galactic Nuclei research and helps channel community perspectives into NASA’s astrophysics planning.

Key details

  • Openings: 3–4 positions
  • Term: 2-year commitment
  • Focus: Advancing AGN science through community engagement aligned with NASA goals

What the role involves

  • Organizing and leading community meetings or webinars
  • Proposing and coordinating collaborative projects across institutions
  • Representing AGN community interests to NASA venues and working groups
  • Facilitating communication and knowledge sharing among researchers

Eligibility and timeline

Prior leadership experience is not required. The call encourages participation from early-career researchers as well as established scientists who can bring ideas, initiative, and follow-through to guide the SIG’s priorities and activities.

Applications are due by Aug. 29, 2025. NASA anticipates making selections in September 2025. Submissions are accepted via an online form linked in the agency’s announcement.

Why it matters

The AGN SIG supports coordination across the Active Galactic Nuclei community—spanning topics such as black hole growth, galaxy evolution, time-domain studies, and multiwavelength/multimessenger strategies. In a period of evolving budget and programmatic conditions, engaged community leadership can help sustain collaboration, surface priorities, and inform upcoming mission-era opportunities in NASA Astrophysics.

Full details, including the application form and contact information, are available in the NASA announcement: Apply to Join the AGN SIG Leadership Council.
